Another gem from the Supraphon label. The 2005 CD release of Antonin Dvorak's Slavonic Dances is a disc not to be missed. Czech specialist Sir Charles Mackerras conducts the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra is what is regarded as the definitive recording of this work. Orginally written for piano four hands, Dvorak's publisher Simrock requested them to be orchestrated in the same manner of Brahms Hungarian Dances. Presented here are the orginal series (op. 46), as well as the second series (op.72), which was composed 8 years after the first. The disc begins with a rousing rendition of the 'Presto' (which is a Czceh Furiant dance). This wonderful energy and playing continues throughout the disc. An essential item for any music collection.
