There is something about a live concert that transcends the music itself. Perhaps it is the result of a kind of subliminal transmission between the artist and the audience, perhaps it is the increase in the adrenalin levels experience on both sides of the footlights and perhaps it is both of these. Still, this feeling can be palpable even to those sharing the event by means of a recording. This is especially true of this recording, as the artist, Ana Moura, is one of Portugals's finest interpreters of that incredibly soulful, uniquely Portuguese musical form, the fado. Perhaps it is possible that her performance at the Coliseu dos Recreios, the most important and historic venue in her homeland's capital, engendered a special feeling as she sang for her own people.
