On this CD the Epoca Barocca top ensemble lineup of proven baroque specialists turns to Telemann, who had ample opportunity to distinguish himself with monumental musical creations and demanding chamber works in Hamburg’s prosperous middle-class environment. Here he could put to beneficial use his familiarity (cultivated by him ever since his youth) with a wide range of instruments and their specific playing techniques: »Apart from harpsichord, violin, and flute,« he had also become acquainted »with the oboe, transverse, chalumeau, gamba, etc., through to the double bass and quint-trombone.« In his duos, trios, and quartets he was thus able to meet the needs not only of versed professional musicians but also of ambitious amateurs from middle-class circles. And he was very successful in this venture: his chamber music with its galant and empfindsam tone was new and yet firmly rooted in the tradition.
