Jean-Baptiste Loillet (1680-1730)
Chamber Music
Sonatas I-VI - Suite in F major

Jean Baptiste Loeillet (1680-1730) was born in Ghent, into a family of musicians. He established a reputation as a flautist and composer in France, but in about 1705 he moved to London. He is called John Loeillet "of London" to distinguish him from another famous composer, his first cousin Jean Baptiste Loeillet of Ghent, and his elder brother Jacques Loeillet.
The similarity of the names repeatedly led to a certain degree of confusion, even during his lifetime. It has now however been largely established which works can be attributed to which composer. This CD presents works which are definitely attributed to John of London - most of them as first recordings.
Ensemble Mediolanum was formed in 1999. The ensemble has performed at international
festivals, broadcasts and concerts of NDR Hamburg, DeutschlandRadio Berlin, Hessen Radio (HR), the Leipzig Bach Festival and the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Festival and was invited to Milan and New York. In 2007 the ensemble was honoured with the Prelude Classical Music Award.
