Leonardo Vinci made a start in 1724, and Vivaldi took up the material three years later: Farnace went on stage in the Venetian theatre S. Angelo in 1727, so it was a home game. The success did not fail to materialize, but the opera, like almost all operas of the Baroque period, fell into oblivion over the next 250 years. Jordi Savall revived the work in 2001, and the cross-section of his live recording from the Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid is presented here as Alia Vox's latest catalogue CD.  Price: $19.98 |
