Higdon: The Singing Rooms
Scriabin: Le Poème de l'extase, Op. 54
Singleton: PraiseMaker

This is the World Premiere Recording of The Singing Rooms, composed by Jennifer Higdon, a recent Pulitzer Prize winner. The Singing Rooms is a violin concerto with parts written for chorus. The violin duties are aptly handled by Jennifer Koh, who actually requested the composition. While Higdon has composed works for a chorus in the past, they have either been a capella or accompanied by sparse instrumentation. This is her first work for chorus and orchestra. The poems sung by the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Chorus were written by Jeanne Minahan who teaches creative writing and literature at the Curtis Institute. Jeanne is a colleague of Higdon's who holds the Rock Chair of Composition Studies at Curtis.
