Kiri Te Kanawa has long since been regarded as one of the top sopranos of last 40 years. She has built her career on a solid technique that allows her to be expressive as well as engaging. This ability has allowed to explore a wide variety of repertoire from Mozart to Handel to Verdi, Strauss, and on, making her one of the most versatile sopranos of her time. This two disc set includes a CD of Mozart arias and a CD of Richard Strauss Lieder and Arias. Her 'Four Last Songs' by Strauss are quite well sung, as is the music from Arabella, but for me, the Mozart disc maked the set. Here we experience one of the most sought after Mozart singers in her prime. Heralded as both Figaro's Countess and Magic Flute's Pamina, Kiri is in her glory. The track that stands out for me is the aria 'Ruhe Sanft' from the unfinished opera Zaide. I have added a clip of the piece here. Kiri's voice is stunning as Zaide sings of her imprisoned love. A great double set showcasing a beautiful voice!
