Following on the success of his CBC recording 'Affairs of the Heart', Canadian composer Marjan Mozetich presents a new CD of chamber works entitled 'Lament in the Trampled Garden'. The performers on this disc are the veritable 'Who's who' of chamber musicians in Canada, including The Gryphon Trio, the Penderecki String Quartet, and harpist Erica Goodman just to name a few. This disc is evidence of Mozetich's mastery with instrumentation, and the sheer beauty of these compositions is something astounding. It is truly wonderful that with all the noise on the radio, gorgeous music is still being composed in our time. This disc is a must have item... period!
Marjan Mozetich selected the four works on this CD to represent his chamber music oeuvre of the past twenty years. Three works involve a string quartet, either alone (Lament in the Trampled Garden), or with other instruments (Angels in Flight, Hymn of Ascension). The final piece, Scales of Joy and Sorrow, is a piano trio. Though all four reflect Mozetich’s own emotional world, they have an enticing, even a questioning openness that compels us to consider them as invitations to imagine.
