Asia - Ravel Maurice 9:44 Born in Québec City, Marianne Fiset is a young promising soprano. Recently named Young Soloist 2008 by the Public Francophone Radios (Radio France, Radio Suisse-Romande, RTBF Belgique and Radio-Canada) in May 2007, she won the First Grand Prize of the Montreal International Musical Competition, the Jean A. Chalmers Prize for the best Canadian artist, the Joseph Rouleau Prize for best artist from Quebec, the Poulenc French Song Award as well as the People’s Choice Award. In June 2007, thanks to the Joseph Rouleau Prize and Quebec delegations in London and Paris, Marianne Fiset made her recital debuts in Europe, at St-John’s Smith Square in London and at the Salons de Boffrand of the Palais du Luxembourg in Paris. Last June, with many great Canadian singers, she sang at the Luna Concert, an exceptional event held as part of the Toronto Luminato Festival. She is one of very few artists rewarded by the Jacqueline Desmarais Foundation in 2007 and she received a Jeunesses Musicales of Canada scholarship in 2005, 2006 and 2007. In November 2006, she placed second and received the Orford Arts Centre’s Prize at the OSM Standard Life Competition. Winner of the Radio-Canada’s Young Artists National Auditions, she recorded a recital broadcast on Espace musique in the winter of 2007. At the invitation of the Vancouver Opera, in September 2007 Marianne Fiset participated in YACIN, a one-week coaching program given by Carol Isaac (San Francisco Opera). In August 2006, she trained at the Canadian Institute of Vocal Arts and worked with maestri Julius Rudel and Paul Nadler, Joan Dornemann, Cesar Ulloa and Denise Massé, among others. In May 2006, she was selected to participate in the prestigious Cleveland Art Song Festival, where she worked on Russian, German and French repertoires with Vladimir Chernov and Warren Jones. In March 2004, she won First Prize as well as the Radio-Canada Galaxy Star Prize of the Orchestre symphonique de Trois-Rivières. In November 2004, she received the Excellence Scholarship from the City of Québec, given out to the most promising artists of the city. In 2005, she made her debuts at the Opéra de Montréal in the role of Adza in Emmanuel Chabrier’s L’Étoile and was Miss Jessel in The Turn of the Screw, Atelier Lyrique’s annual production. In the 2006-2007 season of the Opéra de Montréal, she sang Suor Dolcina in Suor Angelica, Amante in Il tabarro, Annina in La Traviata and Clarice in the Atelier Lyrique’s production of Haydn’s Il mondo della luna. Marianne Fiset was a member of the Atelier Lyrique of the Opéra de Montréal in the 2005-2006 and 2006-2007 seasons. She has just completed the recording of her first album on the Analekta label.
