Mirella Freni as the title role grasps her character firmly and comliments it with a passionate vocal interpretation. A young Placido Domingo appears in one of his signature roles as Pinkerton. It is a Luxury to have Christa Ludwig as Suzuki and she proves a compassionate counterpart for Butterfly. Robert Kerns rounds out the lead roles as Sharpless. The musical direction of Von Karajan is impecable. As beautiful as the music is, such is the film production. Another winner for Jean-Pierre Ponelle. He captures ever essence of the opera in a visually stunning production. A highlight is the act two flower duet with Butterfly and Suzuki.  Price: $22.98 |
