Exactly 100 years ago, the brothers Walt and Roy Disney founded a small cartoon studio in Hollywood, from which the Walt Disney Company was to emerge as one of the largest and most powerful media corporations in the world. An anniversary that not only makes children's hearts beat faster: Among the most loyal fans of Snow White, Ariel, Pocahontas and Co. are also the King's Singers: Great Britain's legendary a cappella sextet revives the most beautiful musical Disney moments of the past decades on its latest album. "Making this album was a real labor of love," says Patrick Dunachie first countertenor of the King's Singers. "We all grew up watching Disney cartoons, and we wanted to celebrate the company's 100th birthday." "When You Wish Upon A Star," the unforgettable mega-hit from "Pinocchio" (1940), is the title, opener and also the motto of this colorful birthday serenade, which features Disney characters as diverse as Sleeping Beauty ("Once Upon A Dream"), Mary Poppins ("Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious"), Mulan ("I'll Make A Man Out Of You") and The Lion King (Elton John's "Can You Feel The Love Tonight?") have their say. With so much variety, even jack-of-all-trades like the King's Singers, founded in 1968, could use some support, so they brought prominent fellow musicians on board. Arrangements by composers such as John Rutter, Nico Muhly and Alexander L'Estrange feature mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato, tenor Pene Pati and cellist Edgar Moreau, among others.
