New on Blue Note: Walter Smith III, US jazz tenor saxophonist born in Houston, Texas in 1980. Smith learned to play the saxophone at the age of seven and attended Houston's High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. With a Clifford Brown / Stan Getz Fellowship scholarship, he studied at Berklee College of Music, where he earned his bachelor's degree in 2003. In New York, he continued his studies at the Manhattan School of Music, working with Roy Haynes, Bilal, Destiny's Child, Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter, among others. in 2006 his first solo album "Casually Introducing" was released, in 2007 he played on Christian Scott's album "Rewind That", which was nominated for a Grammy Now, with "Return To Casual," Walter Smith III picks up where he left off with his 2014 album "Still Casual," assembling a top-notch ensemble for the occasion that also features shining Blue Note colleagues Ambrose Akinmusire and Kendrick Scott.
