Over the course of 52 years, Ernest Ansermet has tirelessly produced recordings. He is one of the conductors who left an enormous musical legacy: more than 300 works by 65 different composers - from Bach to Frank Martin. In this first volume honoring his extensive musical legacy, Decca brings together his complete stereo recordings made for the label. A second volume - "The Mono Years" - will be released as a complementary box set. In May 1954, Decca produced Europe's first commercial stereo recording with Ansermet and his highly regarded Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, and thanks to the famous Decca sound, we can still experience Ansermet's conducting in the best sound quality years after that event. "Ansermet was famous above all for what he excelled at. He could make contemporary music sound clear, distinct and really worth listening to." (Ray Minshull, former producer and director of A&R, Decca Classics) "I was fortunate to live in an extremely active and productive period." (Ernest Ansermet) "You understand La Valse perfectly; I have never been able to achieve such rhythmic smoothness in Paris." (Ravel to Ansermet after a concert in Geneva)
