Anders Jormin: Pasado En Claro

The creative collaboration between Anders Jormin and singer, violist and violinist Lena Willemark was first presented on ECM in 2004 with the album "In Winds, In Light". Then with "Trees Of Light" in 2015, Anders and Lena presented a new project with koto player Karin Nakagawa. With drummer Jon Fält, Anders' longtime collaborator in the Bobo Stenson Trio, the group has now expanded its improvisational range. "Pasado En Claro" explores many creative ideas that arise from the juxtaposition of poetry and music. Texts from ancient Chinese and Japanese sources are combined with contemporary Scandinavian poetry, and words by Mexican writer Octavio Paz and Petrarch, the lyricist of the Italian Renaissance, are also set to music here. Willemark interprets this cross-section of world poetry with voice, adding her own songs to the program. Anders Jormin: "When each musician's unique musical dialect is expressed in curiosity and mixed and communicated with open ears, something stronger than our four individual voices can emerge. Something happens that was not decided or controlled in advance." The result: "carefully crystallized and intimate music."
