Georges Cziffra - Mastery and Fantasy The Complete Studio Recordings on the occasion of his 100th birthday This box set brings together all the studio recordings of the Hungarian-French pianist Georges Cziffra (1921-1994) for EMI and Philips: from his first LP, released in 1956 when he arrived in Paris, to the last sessions in the chapel of Senlis in 1986, a few years before his death. These thirty years of recording history span a consistently varied and stirring repertoire, the bulk of which is Liszt and Chopin, but also includes dazzling improvisations, virtuoso paraphrases, and imaginative transcriptions that also testify to Cziffra's extraordinary musicality. In addition to the rehearsal recordings released in 2008, this collection includes for the first time a studio recital recorded in Tokyo in 1967 and a live recording of Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1 from 1957 - with no less a partner than Carlo Maria Giulini. Georges Cziffra would be 100 years old on November 5, 2021.
