Joe Lovano and Jakob Bro lead a seven-piece group through fiery originals that recall the idioms and idiosyncrasies Motian brought to light in six influential decades behind the drum kit. Lovano and Motian were close colleagues for many years, with their most notable collaboration being the groundbreaking trio with Bill Frisell - the formation released three albums on ECM. Jakob Bro, on the other hand, made his ECM debut on Motian's album "Garden Of Eden" (2006). "Once Around The Room" features compositions by Lovano and Bro alongside collective improvisations and Motian's own "drum music," seamlessly connected and developed by an accomplished musical collective featuring Larry Grenadier, Thomas Morgan and Anders Christensen on bass, and drummers Joey Baron and Jorge Rossy.
