Pianist Krystian Zimerman returns to his Polish roots and dedicates his new album to his compatriot Karol Szymanowski on the composer's 140th birthday After decades of studying Szymanowski's solo piano works, Zimerman presents an album of diverse repertoire spanning from 1899 to the mid-1920s. It reveals the multifaceted nature of Szymanowski's musical language and sheds new light on the composer's previously lesser-known output. In doing so, the album combines the 2022 recording made in the Fukuyama Concert Hall designed by world-renowned acoustician Yasuhisa Toyota with Zimerman's previously unreleased 1994 recording. "Karol Szymanowski: Piano Works" thus concludes Zimerman's journey through Szymanowski's solo piano music, which began back in 1994 The album offers the listener a fascinating glimpse into Szymanowski's sound world, from the splendor and opulence of the "Masques" to the noble variations on a Polish folk theme to the folksy idioms of the "Mazurkas."
