Decca presents the 43-CD original edition with all of Eduard van Beinum's recordings for Decca and Philips. A compilation that features primarily the two orchestras of which he was principal conductor: the Concertgebouw Orchestra and the London Philharmonic Orchestra. The eminent Dutch conductor described his relationship with the orchestra musicians as "first among equals." He said of his work, "One must by no means be tyrannical. A conductor must engage with the possibilities of each individual orchestra member and get everything out of them." It was a great shock when Eduard van Beinum suffered a fatal heart attack on April 13, 1959, during a rehearsal of Brahms' First Symphony on the podium of the Concertgebouw at the age of only 58. His qualities as a musician are particularly appreciated after his death: his impeccable musical intuition, his good taste and the spontaneity of his music-making. In addition to his famous recordings from Beethoven to Bruckner, the limited 43 CD edition also includes a number of 78rpm recordings from Dutch Decca, Telefunken and Deutsche Grammophon, which have been lavishly remastered especially for this edition and released here on CD for the first time. All albums are presented in their original artwork. As a bonus, the edition includes a CD with an audio documentary by Jon Tolansky, in which musicians comment on their collaboration with Eduard van Beinum.
