Shelley Manne, Barney Kessel & Ray Brown: The Poll
The album was the first of five albums released by this trio lineup in 1957. Barney Kessel, Shelly Manne and Ray Brown recorded together not only because they were ranked first in the Down Beat, Playboy and Metronome polls on their respective instruments. Their collaboration was based on mutual respect and sensitivity to each other's musical needs. In this set, consisting mainly of pop and jazz standards, they are the ultimate in their field, forming a rhythm section that also features brilliant solo performances by all three members.
