At 88 years old, John Mayall recently announced he will not continue to tour. In a Facebook post, the blues pioneer wrote that the ongoing Covid 19 pandemic and his advancing age have prompted him to "hang up his road shoes." But this does not mean the end of his music for a long time. in 2022 he will release his new album "Sun Is Shing Down", the follow-up to his 2019 album "Nobody Told Me", together with some guest musicians. And if anyone knows how to put together a great band, it's Mayall, who has been the head of the Bluesbreakers for nearly 60 years. In any case, on "The Sun Is Shining Down" he continues the tradition of bringing together incredible musicians, especially guitarists. They include Mike Campbell of the Heartbreakers, up-and-coming roots rocker Marcus King, singer-songwriter and guitarist Buddy Miller, Austin-based blues guitarist Carolyn Wonderland, guitarist Melvin Taylor, and ukulele virtuoso Jake Shimabukuro and fiddler Scarlet Rivera of Bob Dylan's Rolling Thunder Review. Mayall's longtime rhythm section, Greg Rzab on bass and Jay Davenport on drums, are also on board. The album was recorded at Strawhorse Studios in Los Angeles and also at Robby Krieger's (The Doors) Horse Latitudes studio. Production was handled by Eric Corne. "Each of these special guests brings something unique to the album, and our team works so well together. I think you can hear that chemistry in the music," Mayall said in a statement And so "Sun Is Shing Down" explores a whole range of styles with a variety of different instruments, from guitar and keyboard to harmonica, violin and electric ukulele. If you want to see for yourself, you can already listen to the two singles "I'm As Good As Gone" with Buddy Miller and "Chills And Thrills" with guitarist Mike Campbell or order "Sun Is Shing Down" now.
