Daniel Barenboim features "Rising Star" Oboist Cristina Gómez Godoy with her first love For the album, the oboist chose the two works because of which she once fell in love with her instrument: the only oboe concerto by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Richard Strauss, respectively. Both compositions are united by a lightness and grace that is almost surprising in Strauss' older work, which was composed in 1945 directly after the end of the Second World War, perhaps as a relieved reaction to it. Like Strauss, Mozart, with transparent orchestration, gives the warm sound of the oboe plenty of room and lets it sing. In Mozart's case literally: he worked the aria "Welche Wonne, welche Lust" from the Singspiel "Entführung aus dem Serail" into the third movement as the main theme.
