This compilation can be seen as somewhat of a tribute to independent record man Joe Davis. However we also take a journey around some of the other labels that came and went in almost the blink of an eye during the heyday of the Doo Wop era when groups came together often to find success just eluding them before they went off to form another group on yet another label. Joe Davis's involvement in Doo Wop began in 1953 with the creation of his own Jay - Dee label. A string of records followed by the likes of The Crickets, The Blenders, The Sparrows and The Scaletones who released the labels final song before the label finally folded in 1956. Over at the Apollo label we feature a stable of groups such as The Five Royales who hit the No.1 spot with Baby Don't Do It and The Larks whose biggest hit was co- written incredibly by Claude Debussy! Meanwhile at Al Silver's Herald Records we can listen to the likes of The Cashmeres, The Mint Julips and The Turbans who hit No 3 with "When You Dance" the flipside of "Let Me Show You Around My Heart", a track that also spent five months on the pop charts. Our journey ends with visits to Glory Records to hear The Leaders and The Buddies and to Chicago's Parrot records to witness The Five Thrills enjoy their fifteen minutes of fame!
