Red Wortham and Jim Bulliet had already worked together side by side at Nashville, TN based Bullet Records in the late 1940s when they formed Delta Records in 1950. Bulliet had sold out of Bullet Records in 1948, but Red continued to work for them, and various other record labels, as an independent record promoter. The first recordings made by the new company were by down home Blues artists Tom Douglas and Louis Campbell, both Nashville natives. It is believed that all four sides by these artists were recorded at the same session. At any rate, all four tracks were leased to MGM Records in order to get start up capitol with which to run their new operation. The first real success Delta had was in the Gospel Music field with the legendary Grammy award winning gospel quartet Fairfield Four(who featured in the Hollywood film "Oh Brother Where Art Thou"). The group was formed as a quartet by brothers Harry and Rufus Carrethers, and tenor singer Sam McCrary in the mid 1930s. They quickly became popular throughout the mid south due to their regular radio performances. Sometime in 1950 or 1951, the group recorded at least two sessions that resulted in five releases for Delta Records and over a period of time more artists were to follow, Louis Cambell, Eddie Jones, Clenest Gant and Red Calhoun Orchestra are a few. Jim Bulliet sold his interest in Delta to Red Wortham and Red very much used the Delta label as a side project to Bullet releasing sporadic recordings over a number of years 1950 - 1970's culminating in a various artist collection of classic recordings featured on this CD.
