We can hear one of the earliest vocal groups The Four Blues recording for Apollo their Ink Spots inspired tracks "Honey Chile" and "It Takes A Long Tall Brown Skinned Girl" in 1948. From 1950 we present The Rivals with "Don't Say You're Sorry Again" and the novelty number "Rival Blues." Other great Apollo groups featured are The Whispers, The Gentlemen, The Vocaltones and Billy Austin & The Hearts who had just one release in 1953 with "Night Has Come". And then there was The Opals whose big chance came with "My Heart's Desire" and "Oh But She Did", two great tracks featuring some catchy guitar solos but unfortunately no chart position! From Apollo we visit Rama Records out in California where in 1953 The Crows hit big with "Gee" reaching No. 14 in the pop charts and eleven months later No.6 in the R & B charts The Essential Doo Wop series features many great tracks that were never hits but were nonetheless still great tracks, so let's hear it for The Sunbeams, The Four Fellows, The Escorts and The Goldentones, gone but certainly not forgotten!
