Manuel de Falla is considered the greatest Spanish composer of the twentieth century. He lived in Paris from 1907 to 1914, where he met Debussy, Ravel, and Dukas and immersed himself in their works. De Falla, of course, explored and internalized the Spanish musical language as well. His compositions, which include lush ballets, colorful orchestral works, dazzling piano pieces, and artful songs, are important contributions to modernism in their musical language On the 75th anniversary of the composer's death, this edition places his major works in their historical context, inviting exploration and discovery: spanning nearly a century of recording history - including many historic recordings - with a host of great instrumentalists, singers, conductors, and orchestras, many of them from Spain and France. And among the legendary recordings that made his work famous in the first place is Falla himself at the piano.
