Talented, generous, creative, curious, versatile and, above all, an artist of integrity, Gidon Kremer's discography covers a wide repertoire spectrum, from East to West, from past to future: Bach, Vivaldi, Mozart, Beethoven, Piazzolla, Pärt, Adams, Glass, Schnittke, Nono, Gubaidulina - the last three even composed for him. Kremer - as much a fellow researcher of Nikolaus Harnoncourt as a kindred spirit of Martha Argerich - always combined a passion for artistic freedom with a striving for authenticity, which is evident in this box set of 21 CDs: it brings together all the recordings Kremer made for Erato, Teldec and EMI. Born in Riga in 1947, Gidon Kremer grew up in a German-speaking family of musicians. He studied with David Oistrakh at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow between 1965 and 1973. During this time he won several competitions. From 1970 he undertook tours in the West, and in 1980 he left the USSR and settled in West Germany. The following year he founded a chamber music festival in Lockenhaus, focusing on contemporary and unconventional works. In 1992 he founded the chamber orchestra Kremerata Baltica, composed of young musicians from the Baltic states.
