Nina Kotova, Jose Feghali

"A talent to be reckoned with: poised, committed, graceful and spirited" is how the Los Angeles Times describes Russian-American cellist Nina Kotova. Her Warner Classics catalogue already includes an album of sonatas by Rachmaninoff. Now she adds a program of German Romantic music recorded with Brazilian-born pianist José Feghali, a Van Cliburn Competition winner who died in 2014 at just 53. Spanning 65 years of musical history, the recital includes works by Schumann and Brahms, who were close friends, as well as Max Reger. For his Suite No. 2 for solo cello, composed in 1914, he was inspired by Pablo Casals' advocacy of Bach's solo suites.

"Nina Kotova captures the elegiac mood of this music from the very first bar, which never seems forced or overdone, but shows the serious but also passionate approach of this extraordinary artist." (FonoForum)
