The pianist Martin Stadtfeld has recorded a special Christmas album with well-known and beautiful Christmas melodies in new piano arrangements. For "Christmas Piano" he has selected and newly arranged traditional carols such as "Silent Night, Holy Night", "Mary went through a forest of thorns", "In the Bleak Midwinter" or "Gesù bambino", but also "Vom Himmel hoch" by Michael Praetorius and an organ work by Johann Sebastian Bach. At the same time, Martin Stadtfeld contributed his own pieces, especially the eleven-part contemplative piano cycle "Christmas Time", two variations on "Es ist ein Ros'entsprungen" and two intermezzi on "Vom Himmel hoch". In addition, there are four pieces by Johann Sebastian Bach arranged for piano from his organ works. They are the "Canonische Veränderungen über 'Vom Himmel hoch'" (Canonical changes on 'Vom Himmel hoch'), in which Martin Stadtfeld's brother Stephan also makes a guest appearance on the trumpet.
