Sheku Kanneh-mason - Muse
Sheku Kanneh-Mason, Isata Kanneh-Mason
Sheku and Isata, the charismatic siblings from the talented Kanneh-Mason family, present their first duo album, Muse - a selection of music for piano and cello composed by Samuel Barber and Sergei Rachmaninov. The recording captures the musicality and refined skill of the siblings, who have performed together for years - both at home and in concerts worldwide. Both the Rachmaninov and Barber cello sonatas found a natural place in Sheku and Isata's concert programs before the pandemic. During the COVID-19 lockdown, they discovered a shared enthusiasm and familiar feeling in playing the pieces together. They then asked themselves an important question: is it possible to recreate a live concert off stage? The siblings wanted to share the process of exploration and discovery behind each piece, and demonstrate the realization. The album captures that energy during Muse's recording sessions, when all concerts worldwide were paused, and offers a snapshot of the siblings' musical collaboration during an unexpected time together. Sheku and Isata form a musical relationship that knows no rivalry; this certainty encourages risk-taking in interpreting the composers' expansive works with thrilling results.
