Vincent Herring: Preaching To The Choir
Label: SMOKE SESSIONS RECORDS
Vincent Herring Cyrus Chestnutt, Yasushi Nakamura, Jonathan Blake
A new album from saxophonist and "jazz messenger" Vincent Herring, featuring Cyrus Chestnut on piano and others - swinging hard bop at its finest. Jazz saxophonist Vincent Herring has overcome Covid-19 and its career-threatening side effects and is now back with his defiant and happy new album "Preaching to the Choir". At his side, Cyrus Chestnut, Yasushi Nakamura and Johnathan Blake join him in soulful jazz, a true triumph over suffering and challenge. Herring speaks for almost all of us when he says, "2020 to 2021 was a morbid nightmare." But he also experienced the pandemic firsthand because not only was he unable to perform, but he got Covid-19 to boot. It also meant he spent more time at home watching the tumultuous presidential election and its violent aftermath. Despite the prevailing darkness in the world, "Preaching to the Choir" delivers a sermon for optimism and hope to all jazz believers, backed by as passionate a congregation as a jazz disciple could ask for: pianist Cyrus Chestnut, bassist Yasushi Nakamura and drummer Johnathan Blake. "We have to have hope for the future," Herring insists.
