Alla Veneziana - Bach: Works For Keyboard Vol. 4
Label: harmonia mundi
Benjamin Alard (early keyboard instruments)
With this 4th part of a complete recording whose great originality has been unanimously praised by critics (e.g. Gramophone, July 2020), Benjamin Alard turns again to Bach's first mastery in his Weimar period. After 'In the French manner' there is now a move to Italy, where the Venetian Vivaldi sets the tone with his concertos. Here the young Bach creates a wonderful free space between transcription and improvisation. "The arrangement has to do with freedom, it is also subject to the creative imagination: each piece of this recording transports us to the world of Venice, which fascinated and inspired Bach" and which Benjamin Alard makes audible on three exceptional instruments - including a magnificent harpsichord by Mattia De Gandaus of 1702, restored and preserved in Treviso.
