The Sidewinder, Lee Morgan's 24-beat blues with infectious bass line and backbeat, immediately became one of the most popular tracks in modern jazz history. Every track on this classic album is a jewel. With "The Sidewinder", he released an album on Blue Note that immediately secured his place in the jazz Olympus. Lee Morgan's major work The Sidewinder - recorded in 1963 and released in 1964 - was both a comeback and a crowning achievement. The amazing trumpeter had made his Blue Note debut in 1956 at the age of 18, but personal problems in the early 60s forced him temporarily off the stage. His comeback recording turned out to be The Sidewinder, an energetic and sure set of 5 indelible Morgan originals with tenor saxophonist Joe Henderson, pianist Barry Harris, bassist Bob Cranshaw and drummer Billy Higgins. The album became his biggest commercial success, fueled by the irrepressible title track. The Blue Note Classic Vinyl Edition is completely analog, mastered by Kevin Gray from the original master tapes and pressed to 180g vinyl at Optimal.
