Lewandowski: 18 Liturgical Psalms
Louis Lewandowski was a pioneer of modern Jewish liturgical music, introducing a Romantic style influenced by Mendelssohn. In 1879, his 18 Liturgical Psalms eschewed tradition in Jewish synagogue services and led to the creation of a new liturgy. DG presents the first complete recording of this masterwork with the generous support of the Hungarian Government and Hungarian Radio Art Groups. Musicologist and conductor Andor Izsak is joined by the Hungarian Radio Choir for this world premiere.
