György Sandor - The Complete Columbia Album Colle
Label: SONY CLASSICAL
Piano - Gyorgy Sandor
There were few, similarly close relationships between composers and performers as between Béla Bartók and his pupil, the pianist György Sándor. His Bartók recordings, which still set the standard today and were made between 1945 and 1955, as well as his later recordings from the early nineties, are contained on these 17 CDs - freshly remastered These include the Third Piano Concerto, which Sandor premiered with the Philadelphia Orchestra under Eugene Ormandy, as well as the later recordings of all three concerts with Adám Fischer. But equally documented, in their combination of structural clarity, the use of subtle rubato and the freedom of expression, are fascinating readings of works by Bach and Beethoven, Chopin, Schumann, Liszt, Brahms and Rachmaninov. Eleven of the early mono albums are released for the first time on CD.
