The appeal of Mozart's music in this collection has reached universal status: the C major Piano Concerto, Exsultate, jubilate and G minor Symphony all entered popular musical consciousness in the twentieth century. The concerto is sometimes referred to as 'Elvira Madigan' from its use in the 1967 film of the same name; the Motet appeared in the 1937 Hollywood film '100 Men and a Girl' (sung by Deanna Durbin), and 'Mozart 40' was a pop music hit for Waldo de los Rios in the 1960s - and again as recently as 2010 when it reached No 1 in the Amazon singles chart. The National Symphony Orchestra was founded in the 1940s and immediately became a significant recording orchestra. From the 1980s the reputation and standing of the orchestra surged forwards, successfully performing and recording for audiences in a dynamic range of genres: classical, film and TV scores, West End and Broadway musicals, accompanying celebrated international singers, all of which it continues to do to this day. With more than 70 albums to his credit, reflecting an enormous variety of genres and styles, John Lenehan ranks as one of the most versatile pianists on the classical scene today. Grace Davidson won the Early Music Prize while studying singing at London's Royal Academy of Music. Since then, she has worked with leading baroque ensembles of our day, singing under the batons of Sir John Eliot Gardiner, Paul McCreesh, Philippe Herreweghe and Harry Christophers. The internationally acclaimed violinist Rimma Sushanskaya has embarked on a successful career in conducting. In recent years she has performed as a conductor in concert halls of an ever growing list of countries including Germany, Russia, Israel, Romania, Ukraine, Poland, Lithuania, Bulgaria, Switzerland, China and the United Kingdom.
