Black Bayou Brass

Scenes from the Bayou showcases several World Premiere recordings, representing the best of what the brass band medium has to offer. The range of styles spans everything from transcriptions and arrangements of works by 18th and 19th century masters like Corelli, Mozart, and Mussorgsky, to significant new compositions by contemporary American composers Sy Brandon and Gina Gillie. One of the most active ensembles of its kind, Black Bayou Brass has been a faculty ensemble in residence at the University of Louisiana Monroe since 1971. All three members hold full time university teaching positions, and also maintain active performing careers. Since its inception, Black Bayou Brass has sought to promote brass trio music through performances, commissions, arrangements, and recordings.
