Jacqueline du Pré's exceptional recording of Elgar's Cello Concerto is justifiably legendary. Composed in 1919 when Elgar was sixty-two, her interpretation undoubtedly helped to propel this authentic and singular masterpiece beyond the exclusively English sphere. Over time other instrumentalists have presented their own distinct and often magnificent readings.
