He learned to play piano and clarinet when he was very young, but later took up the tenor saxophone and flute- the two instruments for which he was most well-known. He started his career with the Bop Shots band, before moving to Paris in 1950 where he played and recorded with the best European jazzers of the time. Frémeaux & Associés’ “Quintessence” products, recognized across the globe, are some of the best analog transfers from the source albums, and utilize digital restoration using the most sophisticated technologies without ever resorting to a modification of the original sound which would hinder the completeness of the sound, dynamics, and coherence of the acoustics.
