Musique concrète has radically changed our experience of music and its development led in various ways to modern electronic music. At the heart of this idiom was the music of Pierre Henry. To mark what would have been his 90th birthday, Decca Records presents a personal selection of his works composed between 1950 and 2016, chosen and remastered by the composer himself. Entitled Polyphonies, the 12CD box set collects 29 pieces including 9 unpublished and showcases his work as a composer and his attachment to the scholarly tradition and his masters. These discs may not compete with the extraordinary sensory experience that was a Pierre Henry concert, but these fascinating odysseys certainly retain their genius, profuse sound and architectural imagination.
