It's been a few years since our sophomore release The Mendoza Line (2013), and a lot has changed since then! Catch This marks several "firsts" for the Osland/Dailey Jazztet: in addition to being our longest recording, our sound palette has expanded this time around to include additional instrumentalists and some electronics. This third record (I'm sticking to that term - it's a record of an event) is also Paul Deatherage's first full-length recording with the band. Paul's influence in the band has been huge, from his great playing (which has definitely changed the sound of hte band and my writing for it) down to details of production. The Osland/Dailey Jazztet was formed in 2006 and consists of Miles Osland, woodwinds; Raleigh Dailey, piano; Danny Cecil, bass; and Paul Deatherage, percussion. The quartet's music is an update of the jazz tradition with influences ranging from jazz fusion to free improvisation. The group plays original music as well as reinventions of classic jazz material. The members of the quartet, all associated with the University of Kentucky, have performed widely both nationally and internationally. The quartet's debut recording, titled Evidence, was released on the Sea Breeze Jazz label in the summer of 2009, and received major airplay across the globe.
