Their three previous discs, endBeginning, Times go by Turns, and Sing thee Nowell, have all been highly praised by critics worldwide, and each have received Grammy Award nominations. This new release, Roma aeterna, explores the Eternal City with a programme of 16th century music centered around two of the most influential composers of the time, Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina and Tomas Luis de Victoria. The beautiful polyphony for which Palestrina is known has influenced composers and musicians across generations. His Missa Papae Marcelli, featured on this disc, is heralded as the pinnacle of vocal music from his era. Tomas Luis de Victoria was Spanish-born, but traveled to Rome to study music in 1765. During his twenty year stay, he composed a great deal of sacred music, including his Missa O quam gloriosum and his motet Gaudent in caelis, both of which are performed on this release.
