This album is part of a unique series in that it doesn’t so much focus on the pieces performed, rather, the instruments the works are performed on. The second installment in The Great Violins series, features Peter Sheppard Skaerved performing on the 1647 Amati which was crafted while Stradivarius was a student of Amati. The instrument was taken out of public view for over a century, and was only recently brought back into service. At least ten volumes are planned in this open-ended series. Peter Sheppard Skaerved is the only violinist that has performed on the personal isntruments of Paganini, Joachim, Ole Bull, Kreisler, and Viotti. The next release will feature the complete sonatas and partitas of Bach, performed on the “Joachim” Stradivari of 1698.
