The album “Unforced Errors,” is the debut record from Mixed Doubles, displaying the acoustic guitar abilities of Justin Gonzales and Lisa Liu. The two began working together in 2013, only playing informal jam sessions. This album is a culmination of years of honing their craft, bouncing ideas off of one another, and embracing new ideas. The pieces here, while more prepared than their original works, still have long stretches of improvisation where both musicians shine. Drawing from jazz, classical music, and the avant garde, these pieces are intricate, dramatic, and exciting.
