Stradella: San Giovanni Crisostomo
VENDITTELLII BELLOTTO MINECCIA CERVONI TABBUSH ENSEMBLE MARE NOSTRUM DE CARLO
Released here for the first time is Alessandro Stradella’s oratorio, San Giovanni Crisostomo. Ensemble Mare Nostrum and conductor Andrea De Carlo perform Stradella’s oratorio, which combines sacred, moral, political, social, and even erotic subjects. The only musical source of the San Giovanni Crisostomo is a hand-written score kept in the Biblioteca Estense in Modena since 1680. However, no trace of the source of the libretto, or even the librettist, has been found.
