Wagner: Parsifal / Kollo, Adam, Cold
KOLLO SCHRÖTER ADAM TESCHKER RUNDFUNK-SINFONIE-ORCHESTER LEIPZIG KEGEL
Featuring a stellar principal and supporting cast, this production of Richard Wagner’s Parsifal, recorded live in Leipzig’s Kongreßhalle in 1975 and first released in 1978, has certainly stood the test of time. René Kollo takes the main role in a release that was lauded by Gramophone for its ‘highly distinguished’ singing, with the conducting of Herbert Kegel also noted for its ‘unusual swiftness and dramatic candor’. With Gisela Schröter as the devious Kundry and Theo Adam as the despairing Amfortas, this Parsifal is a wonderful tribute to Wagner’s intensely humane work.
