Ida Haendel - Violin

Ida Haendel (b. 1928), a British violinist of Polish origin who has performed in the world's most famous concert halls, and who can boast of working with virtually all of the world's conducting legends, has left her indelible mark on the city of Prague in the form of recordings. From the work of this phenomenal virtuoso in the Supraphon archives, we have selected pieces by composers who cherished the violin above all other instruments: Glazunov, Wieniawski and Tartini. Most of the recordings were made in the era of stereophonic technology, so the listener can fully appreciate the power of the violinist's brilliant talent and the convictionof her artistic expression. The recording also confirms the reputation of Vaclav Smetacek as a sensitive accompanist; under his direction, the orchestra plays with utmost musicality and humble respect for the solo part. A legendary virtuoso's shining performance in Prague.
