Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s IDOMENEO, his very first mature opera, tells a dramatic ancient Greek story, taking place on the island of Crete, shortly after the Trojan War. It demonstrates Mozart’s early mastery of dramatic orchestral colours, accompanied recitatives and melodic line. The Electrola recording of 1971, based upon the Munich edition of 1781, was the first complete IDOMENEO on record - featuring outstanding Mozart singers like Anneliese Rothenberger, Edda Moser, Nicolai Gedda and Peter Schreier, under the baton of Hans Schmidt-Isserstedt. Liner notes included. No libretto.
