Schumann. Papillons Op.19, Carnaval Op.2. Vladar
Label: harmonia mundi Catalog: HMA 1951890 Format: CD Stefan Vladar (piano)Composed by: , , Underneath the brightly colored festivities of Papillons and Carnaval is concealed the eccentric and vulnerable imagination of the most literary of the Romantics. Preceded by a short introduction, the twelve untitled sketches of Papillons, from 1832, each have their quick spin and then flutter off - it is up to the listener to catch them in flight. Carnaval is a kaleidoscope of twenty pieces, each with its own title, and Schumann referred to his 1839 Faschingsschwank aus Wien as a large romantic sonata. Subtitled "Phantasiebilder" (Fantasy Pictures), the work could have served as prototype for Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition. This reissue of piano music by Schumann features the award-winning international soloist Stefan Vladar. Price: $10.98 |
