Black Coffee is the new CD that unites Top 10 Billboard jazz artist David Diggs with his daughter Rachel, whose “Hands of Time” from her CD Center of the Earth was featured in ABC Family’s Pretty Little Liars. This new CD spotlights Rachel singing selections from the American Songbook, as well as an original and two new instrumentals by David. Featuring world-class players, lush orchestrations, and time-tested songs, Black Coffee is sure to be a hit.
Veteran jazz artist, producer and songwriter David Diggs has been in the industry for over two decades, having worked alongside artists like Quincy Jones, Pat & Debbie Boone and Michael Legrand. BLACK COFFEE is a particularly personal album for Diggs, as it joins him in song with his daughter Rachel, who provides main vocals. Both the compositions and arrangements are reminiscent of the silky, soulful romanticism of Burt Bacharach's music. Piano is the central instrument, alongside a bit of sax and trumpet, dreamy strings, guitar and laid-back rhythms. It's a very sunny, pleasant sound; attractively urban with a bit of R&B mingled in with the jazz. The set is a mix of covers and original tunes, including "Black Coffee," "The Nearness of Love," "Body & Soul" and others. |
