At the end of the church year, we remember those who have departed this life, whether by natural causes or through conflict, and allow ourselves a contemplative pause before launching into the joyful anticipation of Advent. This mood is reflected in the repertoire of the “Kreuzchorvespern,” those moving church services regularly attended by thousands of people in the Dresden Kreuzkirche. The CD series of the same name, featuring the whole range of best-known vesper songs for the church year, now concludes with its fourth release. The compositions on this CD are drawn from several centuries, and were all written for the end of the church year, reminding us in different ways of the transience of human life while offering comfort through religious faith.
